Artist's Biography
David Crowley revisited the craft of photography in 2004, thirty years after his first B+W photography course. A former emergency room nurse turned union iron worker (Local 7, Boston), David’s attention turned back to his previous ambition.

Born in Boston and raised in Braintree, Massachusetts, a suburb south of historical Boston, David graduated Braintree High School, enlisting in the United States Army to become a Medical Corpsman (1981-1984), graduated Daniel Freeman Trauma Center’s Paramedic School, Inglewood, CA (1985) and is a 1991 graduate of the University of Massachusetts, College of Nursing, Boston, MA .

His personal preference is in black and white work that demonstrates a photojournalistic style, “a photo that captures the eye of the viewer and tells a story with out caption.”

David has been strongly influenced by Boston area photographers such as the Brett Family, Rick Freeman, Cary Wolinski and Mike Sleeper, as well as the west coast’s Joe Buissink. It was in the cellar darkroom of Harry Brett Sr. that I had my first exposure to developing film and the printing process. “I remember my friend Harry Jr. and me saving our money to buy paper to develop and it being a great time in my life”. Today David lives on Boston’s south shore with his wife Pamela, their two children and Hobie the golden retriever.
